The Saturday Morning Committee

Jan 15, 2006

by Curtis Rau

Most every Saturday morning, a group of attorneys have met in the conference room of Debus, Kazan & Westerhausen, Ltd. on East Palm Lane in Phoenix to discuss legal matters. This committee has been involved in several legal causes of statewide significance, most recently noted for our active participation in "Derendafter" (legal issues arising after Derendal), responding to the Supreme Court's DUI Case Processing Committee, and engaging the State and CMI, Inc. in litigation over the source code for the internal program that runs the Intoxilizer. The group consists of Cliff Girard, Chris McBride, Curtis Rau, Dave Derickson, Ed Loss, Jeff Siitola, Joe St. Louis, John Phebus, Kathleen Carey, Lisa Posada, Matt Green, Melanie Beauchamp, Neal Bassett, Otilia Diaz, Pam Nicholson, Sam Costanzo, Steve Barnard, and Treasure VanDreumel. The "committee" is a loose association at best, working together spontaneously with the abiding desire to serve the citizens of Arizona. Those who are unable to attend the Saturday morning sessions keep abreast of the group's activities through e-mail. There has been some discussion about the Saturday Morning Committee becoming an adjunct of AACJ, though nothing is final at this time.

I anticipate the Committee's support in keeping me mindful of new DUI issues.
